All new members to Rayleigh u3a will be a member of this Group for a year from their start date. It is to support new members to enjoy all that Rayleigh u3a has to offer.
We meet three times a year, by invitation and this gives new members a chance to meet other members as well as some Group Leaders and members of the Committee. It is a social afternoon with refreshments and usually a fun quiz!
We ask for feedback after members have been with us for a year to see if there is anything we could be improving. Here are some comments from a recent member who has now moved on from this group after their first year:
"In response to your request for comments from new members, I can tell you that my wife and I have enjoyed our first year. We have attended the monthly meetings and found most talks very interesting, enjoyed the Christmas lunch last year and have booked for the next one, loved the theatre trip to see Mamma Mia and have booked to see Calamity Jane. During these occasions we have met many other U3a members, found them all very friendly, and can appreciate the wide range of personalities, needs, and interests for which it caters incredibly well.
For my part, I have been conscious of the need to do something in return and, as a result, managed to arrange a successful Plant tour for members of the new Waffle Group for Men'. I intend to continue active input to the group and to assist the U3a on an ad-hoc basis if ever I can. "Unfortunately, however, I no longer feel able to commit to a role on a committee, but I admire those who do and will support them whenever I can."
